Representation & Advocacy

Representation and Advocacy

In support of our mission to deliver excellent student and campus experiences, and given the integrated and broad nature of the services we provide to academic life, CUBO engages with a variety of other associations in higher education. Here are some of the main relationships we maintain:

Commercial and campus services

We have a strategic partnership with The University Caterers Organisation TUCO and meet annually with ASRA, TUCO, UHS and Academic Venue Solutions among other associations.

Wellbeing

CUBO Board member Gillian Almond is a member of the Protect-Ed Advisory Board.

CUBO Board member Stewart Ross represents CUBO on the UCEA Health & Safety Committee

CUBO Board member Bryan Carroll is a member of the BPF Student Wellbeing Working Group

Sustainability

CUBO Board member Jon Greenwood MBE is a judge for the Green Gown Awards, an initiative of EAUC. We are proud to sponsor the Enterprise category again in 2019.

Accommodation

CUBO Board member Bryan Carroll serves on the ANUK/UNIPOL Code Committee of Management, the BPF Student Accommodation Committee and is a member of the NUS/UNIPOL Accommodation Costs Survey Steering Group

UUK/GuildHE Accommodation Code of Practice

CUBO representatives on the UUK ACoP Governance Board:

  • Bryan Carroll (Solent University)
  • Helen McGlashan (University of Manchester)
  • Kirsty Woodward (University of Leicester)

CUBO representatives on the UUK ACoP Sector Advisory Group;

  • Helen McGlashan (University of Manchester)
  • Deirdre McIntyre (Bangor University)
  • Mel Parrott (Kellogg College, University of Oxford)
CUBO members have a very significant staff cohort in each institution – 800 here in Leeds in my team – so issues pertaining to H&S are critical for us all. Mental health issues and sickness represent significant concerns and it is vital that CUBO members are appraised on sector-wide initiatives and useful connections.
