Vital that student accommodation staff
are added to lists of key workers 

University halls staff and residence assistants carry out essential work in maintaining daily life in student accommodation.

With the introduction of travel restrictions, a significant number of students are unable to return home and must continue living in student accommodation for the foreseeable future.

An essential network of university employees, from cleaners and porters to managers and directors, are required to maintain these communities and support students. It is vital that these staff are added to lists of key workers and allowed to travel to their places of work.

Increasing numbers of students are being required to self-isolate. These students need food deliveries, medical supplies, cleaning supplies and access to kitchens and bathrooms. Universities are working hard keep abreast of the evolving situation and ensure that, despite inevitable staff shortages, a continual team of workers are available in student accommodation to ensure the well-being of students.

It is vital that these staff are not restricted from travelling to work and not impacted by school closures. CUBO will campaign to make sure university staff will are able to continue working to maintain essential services for students for as long as the situation continues.
