Melissa Browne, Deputy Director of Commercial Services and Estates at the University of Kent, has been appointed Vice Chair of CUBO.
As Vice Chair, Melissa retains her Board portfolios, but joins the senior management team alongside Chair Kirsty Woodward (University of Leicester), Chair-Elect Jane Donachy (University of the Arts London) and CUBO Executive Director Jan Capper, and will progress in two years to the position of CUBO Chair.
Melissa joined the CUBO Board on 1 January 2022, taking the Learning & Development and EDI portfolios. Under Melissa’s lead, CUBO has developed a three-year Learning & Development strategy and 2022-3 plan including a Mentoring Programme, which launched in October and has attracted over 25 mentors from the CUBO community. Mentee recruitment will start in November.
A series of development events for campus and commercial services professionals begins with Aspiring Directors in Sheffield on 14-15 November 2022. The 2023 programme will continue with Building Personal Brand, Negotiating a Nominations Agreement, Commercial Summer Business, HE Catering Business Models, Successful Marketing for Campus Services and Female Campus Leaders.
The CUBO Study Tour, visiting the University of Edinburgh and other Scottish universities before the 2023 CUBO summer conference in Glasgow, will be bookable by CUBO members as well as international delegates. There are also plans to run a second Global Housing Training Institute with Acuho-I in late 2023.
In her EDI role, Melissa represents CUBO on the Unite Students Commission on Living Black at University. During 2022-3, CUBO will publish an EDI Strategy to support the 2022-2025 L&D strategic statement and goals:
