As permanent administrator of the UUK/GuildHE Accommodation Code of Practice (The Code), CUBO recently hosted its first Round Table for Code members.
Some 44 people registered to hear advice, guidance and best practice on the mandatory Audits & Complaints submissions required for legislative compliance with The Code.
Co-hosted by Tracy Altham & Paul Burns from The University of Manchester alongside Trudy Williams, CUBO National Code & Projects Manager, the session was really well received by Code members new to their role or needing a refresher on what to do.
The Code is of enormous value to higher education, assuring safe and quality accommodation for students. By recognising the special status of purpose built student accommodation, for the 144 member organisations covering some 262,000 bed spaces, it also saves more than £13 million each audit round compared to Local Authority licensing.
"It’s so important that every part of the organisation understands the value of being within The Code, supporting accommodation teams in both delivering a great service and meeting the requirements laid out by Parliament," Trudy Williams explains.
CUBO now plans more ACoP round tables to support members responsible for Code compliance and provide opportunities for everyone to get involved in the major review of the Code which is taking place this year.
The 2023 Code Practitioner’s Conference takes place on 25th May, fully online and promises to be one of the best yet. Code members can register as many colleagues from their organisation as they wish and can book here
