Living Black at University Conference 2026

Breaking Barriers – Accelerating Systemic Change

The Living Black at University Commission is hosting its third conference at the University of Leeds on Friday 20th March 2026.

This free one-day event is open to member and non-member universities and private student accommodation providers. We warmly welcome both returning colleagues and those engaging with this work for the first time.

Together, we will explore how universities can move beyond dialogue and transform practice to drive tangible, lasting change with courage and purpose. Our shared goal: to build a future where Black students can live, learn, and belong.

The 2026 programme will include sessions on:

  • Black Student Mental Health: Peer-to-Peer Support
  • Understanding the “Black Tax” and its Impact on both Students and Colleagues in Accommodation
  • How to Be an Effective Ally for Racial Equity
  • Making the Business Case for Black Student Inclusion
  • Developing Inclusive Hiring Strategies

 …and more to be announced.

There are only 120 spaces available – so, to make sure as many organisations can engage with this work as possible, organisations are initially limited to three places each. But don’t worry! If you can’t make it, we’ll be sharing a write-up and resources after the event.
