26 July 2021      Scott Murdoch, ICT Support Officer

Four professional services associations - CUBO, UCISA, AUDE and HESPA - came together in August for a unique virtual event in higher education.

Places and Spaces - Planning for the next academic year in uncertain times saw a panel of experts from each organisation and a cross-section of universities’ professional departments consider a range of perspectives on the challenges and opportunities institutions face when planning for the next academic year.

Chaired by Adrian Ellison, Associate Pro Vice-Chancellor and CIO, University of West London and Chair of the ucisa Board of Trustees, the panel comprised:

  • Kirsty Woodward, Director of Campus Services, University of Leicester and CUBO Chair Elect
  • Caroline Low, Director of Planning and Corporate Strategy, University of Lincoln
  • Dave Beavis, Space Manager, University of Exeter
  • James Smith, Director of IT, Birkbeck, University of London and ucisa Trustee

The panel tackled the fundamental question of how far and permanently the pandemic has changed higher education, before considering the potential opportunities and challenges in planning the university campus of the future.
